A custom 4.5 metre concrete island bench in Arctic.

This home was always going to be a show stopper, located on a magnificent rural property just outside of Young, NSW. The kitchen of this home was made with entertaining in mind. The clients are known for their fun, energy and deadly margarita cocktail recipe. With this in mind, this was one project we couldn’t wait to complete. The custom concrete island bench measured 4.5 metres long 1.2 metres wide and was 70mm thick.  This stunning, one-of-a-kind concrete kitchen island completed this space and added an element of sophistication that we didn’t know was missing.

The Vision

This open plan living and kitchen was set to be the hub of the home. The clients wanted a central focal point that would serve as a functional workspace while also making a design statement. The length of 4.5 metres was chosen to provide ample workspace and accommodate seating for a large group. Choosing concrete meant that this was able to be poured as one piece with no join lines that cannot be achieved with any other material.

One of the advantages of custom work is that you have complete control over every aspect. The clients selected Arctic white ensuring it would seamlessly integrate with the rest of our kitchen.

The Installation Process

Once the concrete had cured, it was sealed in a matte finish to enhance its durability and protect it from stains. This step not only added to the island's longevity but also accentuated the natural beauty of the material.

Installing a 4.5-metre concrete island was no small feat. It required careful planning, and coordination with fellow trades. The concrete was poured in our shed and transported to the site.

The End Result

Having a  4.5-metre long bench provides an abundance of space for food preparation, casual dining, socializing, or simply enjoying a morning coffee. Its custom design made it truly one-of-a-kind and a conversation starter for anyone who enters this kitchen.
